Published on

Prof. Paolo Melchiorre visited Syncom as an special guest of our Dutch Design & Synthesis lectures. His lecture showed the great potential of combining organocatalysis and photochemistry for enantioselective synthesis. Based on a deep mechanism understanding, his research is opening the way for the development of innovative synthetic methodologies.

Paolo Melchiorre obtained his PhD at the University of Bologna (Italy). After a research period at the Centre for Catalysis in Ahrus (Denmark), he came back to the University of Bologna as postdoctoral researcher and later became Associate Professor. In 2009, he joined the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ, Spain) where he is now an ICREA Research Professor and Senior Group Leader.

Paolo has over 100 publications in high impact journals and has received several awards such as the “G. Ciamician” Gold Medal of the Italian Chemical Society, the prize for Scientific Excellence from the Royal Spanish Chemical Society (RSEQ) and two prestigious ERC grants.
